High School Football Capsules for weekend of Oct. 26

By DENNIS C. WAY

POPE JOHN PAUL II AT BOYERTOWN
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Boyertown High School
RECORDS: Pope John Paul II is 0-8, 0-7 after losing to Phoenixville, 40-19. Boyertown is 1-7, 1-6 after losing to Methacton, 24-20.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Pope John Paul won, 27-14.
OUTLOOK:  Desperate for a win, the Golden Panthers finish up the season with one-win Boyertown and winless Upper Perkiomen.
“We absolutely have to get a win,” said PJP head coach Mike Santillo, “and hopefully we can get it this week.”
Unlike PJP, which has struggled due to injury, the Bears are short on experience.
“They only have four or five seniors,” Santillo said. “They have a real young team, and they felt they might struggle a little bit this year.”
Where the Bears have struggled the most is on defense, where they’ve yielded a conference-worst 405 yards per game. Offensively, their ground game is fourth in the PAC, with Matt Moccia, Cody Richmond and Eric Heller all surpassing the 450-yard mark.
By contrast, the Panthers have nearly 300 passing yards more than any team in the PAC, which says a lot about sophomore QB Matt Mesaros, who has been improving since being forced to fill in for the injured James Bleming.
“Matt’s been getting better by the week,” Santillo said. “He got thrown to the wolves, but he’s learning by fire.”

NORRISTOWN AT WISSAHICKON
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Wissahickon High School
RECORDS: Norristown is 1-7, 1-4 after losing to Plymouth Whitemarsh, 28-0. Wissahickon is 5-3, 3-2 after defeating Upper Merion, 49-22.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Wissahickon won, 28-16.
OUTLOOK:  The Trojans are still in the district playoff hunt, and can’t afford to slip up against the Eagles.
Meanwhile, Norristown knows what it’s up against this week, and that is a stellar and talented Wissahickon front, described by Upper Dublin head coach Bret Stover as, “the most physical we’ve faced all year.”
“Their front is really good,” said Eagles head coach E.J. Smith, “and their team goes off the play of that front. They’ve got that real good, tough back (Dan Murphy) and they come right at you.
“They’re a Wing-T team, but with wrinkles.”
Smith, who has worked backup QB Carlton Brown into some games, said usual starter Sonny Brewer will be under center this week.

POTTSTOWN AT SPRING-FORD
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Spring-Ford Middle School
RECORDS: Pottstown is 4-4, 3-3 after losing to Pottsgrove, 55-20. Spring-Ford is 7-1, 5-1 after defeating Owen J. Roberts, 33-6.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Spring-Ford won, 27-20.
OUTLOOK:  While the Pioneer focus this week is in Pottsgrove, the Rams still have a huge game this week, needing a victory against a dangerous Trojans squad to stay in the conference title chase.
The matchup this week pits the PAC’s two most prolific passing quarterbacks in Pottstown’s Sage Reinhart (94-for-161, 1,492 yds., 13 TDs) and Spring-Ford’s Hank Coyne (92-for-160, 1,151 yds., PAC-best 17 TDs).
Meanwhile, the Rams defense has been stingy of late and is yielding just 205 yards per contest.
Should PV surprise Pottsgrove this week, the Rams’ date with Perk Valley next week would be for a potential share of the PAC crown.

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH AT UPPER DUBLIN
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Upper Dublin High School
RECORDS: Plymouth Whitemarsh is 7-1, 5-0 after defeating Norristown, 28-0. Upper Dublin is 5-3, 3-2 after defeating Springfield, 50-21.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Plymouth Whitemarsh won, 23-7.
OUTLOOK: The Colonials locked up at least a share of their second straight Suburban One League American Conference title last week, and now look to take another step toward their goal of going unbeaten in league play.
In their way are the Cardinals, fresh off a blowout win over Springfield, and hoping for the return of RB Khalid Weems, who has missed the last three games because of injury. Reed Rapine has filled in admirably in Weems’ stead.
“Reed has had an awesome year for us, offensively and defensively,” said UD head coach Bret Stover.
As for PW?
“They’re good, it’s tough to find a weakness,” Stover said. “They’re not going to beat themselves. We have to play a perfect game to beat them, and not turn the ball over, which has been a problem for us lately.”
With seven underclassmen starting on defense, Stover is thrilled about the Cardinals’ future, but also knows an upset win this week could put UD in range of a spot in the district playoff field.
“Our goal when we began building this program was to play meaningful games late in the year,” Stover said, “and that’s what we’ve been doing the last five or six seasons.”

PERKIOMEN VALLEY AT POTTSGROVE
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Pottsgrove High School
RECORDS: Perkiomen Valley is 7-1, 7-0 after defeating Upper Perkiomen, 47-14. Pottsgrove is 8-0, 7-0 after defeating Pottstown, 55-20.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Pottsgrove won, 34-6.
OUTLOOK:  See Sideline Insider

UPPER MERION AT CHELTENHAM
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Cheltenham High School
RECORDS: Upper Merion is 1-7, 1-4 after losing to Wissahickon, 49-22. Cheltenham is 5-3, 3-2 after losing to Upper Moreland, 28-21.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Cheltenham won, 34-20.
OUTLOOK:   The Vikings, who are yielding better than 37 points per game, have held only one foe under 27 points this season. That’s not the best resume heading into a matchup with the Panthers, who feature an explosive offense headed by QB Hyneef Dockery and RBs Mark Thompson and Ryan Phillips.
Panthers senior LB Dwayne Bowser has drawn raves from opposition coaches all season.
Upper Merion’s best means of moving the ball seems to be through the air via junior QB Carmen Fortino (63-for-152, 1,187 yds.) while WR-KR Michael Grant has been a big-play threat throughout most of the season.

LA SALLE AT WEST CATHOLIC
TIME: Friday, 7:30 p.m., Widener University
RECORDS: La Salle is 7-1 after defeating Roman Catholic, 28-14. West Catholic is 5-2 after defeating Neumann-Goretti, 42-0.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: La Salle won, 24-0.
OUTLOOK:  Last week’s game, while a win, was costly for the Explorers, who saw QB Chris Kane and RBs Jared Herrmann and Jordan Meachum go down to injury, and along DB Dad Poquie and lineman Andrew Carlone, will not play this week.
The bad news is, none of them are certain to be back for the start of next weekend’s playoffs.
“This is going to be a challenge for us,” said La Salle head coach Drew Gordon, “and we’re going to have to rely on our defense and our offensive line, which are both senior-laden, to get us through.
“This week is a good test against a real good team.”
If Kane sits, it will give soph Jimmy Herron (5-for-8, 100 yds. 2 TDs) his first start under center.
Meanwhile, West doesn’t seem to miss standout RB David Williams, who transferred to Imhotep Charter. His replacement, junior Greg White, leads the Burrs and the PCL in rushing (117 carries, 1,050 yds., league-best 19 TDs), while QB Antwain McCollum (55-for-99, 783 yds., 9 TDs) and receiver Ron Womack (23 catches, 292 yds.) are enjoying fine seasons and OT Jaryd Jones-Smith (6-7, 320 lbs.) is impressing everyone in sight.

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST AT NORTH PENN
TIME: Friday, 7:30 p.m., North Penn High School
RECORDS: Central Bucks West is 5-3, 3-2 after defeating Hatboro-Horsham, 31-14. North Penn is 4-4, 3-2 after losing to Pennridge, 28-21.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: North Penn won, 40-14.
OUTLOOK:  The Knights have their first four-loss season since 2000 (7-4) and their district-best run of 10 straight playoff appearances is in major jeopardy.
On top of that they’re facing a West team that has won three in a row and features a spread offense that averages 31 points a game. That offense is led by QB Cody Riemenschneider (120-for-188, 1,401 yds., 12 TDs), RB Sherrod Higginbotham (110 carries, 889 yds.) and the receiving trio of Mark Ciaudelli, Kurt Logan and Corey Schott which has combined for 74 catches and 859 yards.

CARDINAL O’HARA AT LANSDALE CATHOLIC
TIME: Saturday, 1:00 p.m., Wissahickon High School
RECORDS: Cardinal O’Hara is 5-3, 1-1 after defeating Monsignor Bonner, 9-7. Lansdale Catholic is 4-4, 0-2 after losing to Archbishop Ryan, 34-7.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Did not play.
OUTLOOK:  It’s no secret the Crusaders have dropped four in a row after opening the year at 4-0. Now, they would like to get a PCL AAA win heading into next week’s playoffs.
“We knew it was going to get tougher every week,” said LC head coach Tom Kirk, “and we’ve been in every game in the fourth quarter up until last week.”
With O’Hara, LC has a very tough challenge. The Lions feature QB Dashawn Darden (81-for-145, 1,189 yds., 14 TDs), a team full of playmakers like Thaddius Smith (53 carries, 323 yds., 25 catches, 342 yds.) and an oversized group of linemen.
“Their speed and their size gives us some difficult matchups,” Kirk said, “and we could struggle physically with some of those matchups. But it’s not any different than any other week.”

OWEN J. ROBERTS AT METHACTON
TIME: Saturday, 1:00 p.m., Methacton High School
RECORDS: Owen J. Roberts is 3-5, 3-3 after losing to Spring-Ford, 33-6. Methacton is 3-5, 3-4 after defeating Boyertown, 24-20.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Methacton won 13-7.
OUTLOOK:   The Warriors, coming off a solid win over Boyertown, seek their second two-game win streak of the season against a Wildcats team that has beaten likely playoff team Phoenixville and that is coming off lopsided losses to Pottsgrove and Spring-Ford (in  a contest shortened by lightning).
Owen J. is led by QB Jarrad Pinelli (63-for-118, 1,001 yds., 14 TDs) and RB Wyatt Scott (137 carries, 744 yds.).
Methacton has been getting late-season production in the passing game from QB Brandon Bossard (66-for-151, 871 yds., 9 TDs) and receivers Dillon Alderfer (18 catches, 242 yds.) and Cooper Given (16 catches, 338 yds.).

SPRINGSIDE CHESTNUT HILL ACADEMY AT GERMANTOWN ACADEMY
TIME: Saturday, 1:30 p.m., Germantown Academy
RECORDS: Chestnut Hill is 1-6, 0-2 after losing to Episcopal Academy, 21-0. Germantown Academy is 3-3, 0-2 after losing to Haverford School, 20-14.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Chestnut Hill Academy won, 33-7.
OUTLOOK:  The Patriots face a Blue Devils team that has scored just 53 points in seven games while rushing for just 448 yards.
These days, SCHA seems content to move by air, and QB Michael Hayes (44-for-112, 656 yds.) has proven to be a capable pilot while Bobby Keyes has 22 catches for 402 yards.
GA QB Hayes Nolte (70-for-139, 1,141 yds., 10 TDs) has thrown for more yardage than any other Inter-Ac League quarterback this season.

ARCHBISHOP CARROLL AT BISHOP MCDEVITT
TIME: Saturday, 7:00 p.m., Cheltenham High School
RECORDS: Archbishop Carroll is 3-5, 2-1 after losing to Archbishop Wood, 62-7. Bishop McDevitt is 1-7, 0-3 after losing to Conwell-Egan, 28-6.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Bishop McDevitt won, 34-29.
OUTLOOK:  With only two teams eligible for the PCL AA playoffs, the Patriots know this a big game.
“We’d like to be able to finish 3-1 in the league,” said Patriots head coach Joe Powel. “That puts us in the (AA) championship game, and would help us, points-wise, if they take a second Catholic League team to the (District 12) playoffs.”
McDevitt is led by the versatile Tymere Wilder, who has rushed for 216 yards, passed for 119, caught 10 balls for 246 yards, scored six touchdowns and intercepted three passes.
Along with winning, Powel would like to see Carroll kickstart its offense.
“The last couple of weeks have been a struggle offensively,” Powel said. “We have to do a better job running the football so defenses can’t pin their ears back and come after our quarterback.”
Carroll will play without WR Dan Bier (concussion).

High School Football Capsules for weekend of Oct. 19

By DENNIS WAY

WISSAHICKON AT UPPER MERION
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Upper Merion Middle School
RECORDS: Wissahickon is 4-3, 2-2 after losing to Cheltenham, 20-6. Upper Merion is 1-6, 1-3 after losing to Plymouth Whitemarsh, 42-17.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Wissahickon won, 48-18.
OUTLOOK:  The Trojans, coming off back-to-back losses to Plymouth Whitemarsh and Cheltenham, look to get back on track against the Vikings, who know a little something about snapping losing streaks.
“Over the last two years we hadn’t lost two games in a row,” said Trojans head coach Jeff Cappa, “but the team is working hard and they know the only thing that’s going to help us is a win.
“We’re a good football team, we just played two real good teams and they played better than us on those nights.”
As for Upper Merion, Cappa is not taking the Vikings lightly.
“Their staff has done a good job,” Cappa said. “They play hard, they battle every week.”
Wissahickon is still without G Eddie Bailey due to injury and are missing four more players who were suspended in the wake of last week’s end-of-the-game brawl with Cheltenham.

SPRING-FORD AT OWEN J. ROBERTS
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Owen J. Roberts High School
RECORDS: Spring-Ford is 6-1, 4-1 after defeating Methacton, 31-7. Owen J. Roberts is 3-4, 3-2 after losing to Pottsgrove, 59-7.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Spring-Ford won, 42-0.
OUTLOOK:  At this point the Rams can do little but continue winning, and if all falls right (say, a Perk Valley win over Pottsgrove followed by the Rams defeating Perk Valley), could wind up with a share of the PAC crown as well as a home game for the start of district-playoff play.
In the way this week is a Wildcats team that saw a three-game win streak end in blowout fashion last weekend at the hands of Pottsgrove.
OJR possesses a dangerous passing game, headed by QB Jarrad Pinelli (55-for-102, 913 yds., 13 TDs) and deep-ball threat Matt Raymond, who is averaging 25 yards per catch, although Pinelli was harassed into a 3-for-11, 20-yards-game against Pottsgrove, while Raymond was held to one catch for 12 yards.

SPRINGFIELD AT UPPER DUBLIN
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Upper Dublin High School
RECORDS: Springfield is 4-3, 1-3 after defeating Norristown, 18-6. Upper Dublin is 4-3, 2-2 after defeating Upper Moreland, 14-7.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Did not play.
OUTLOOK:  Last week, the Spartans won their first Suburban One League game since abandoning the league after the 1994 season, an emotional Homecoming victory over Norristown spurred by the death of sophomore Cole Luxton.
Springfield tries to make it two in a row against the Cardinals, who are coming off a big win of their own, a gutty win over Upper Moreland, achieved without top running back Khalid Weems and despite being outgained (217-141) by the Bears.
This week, UD will likely keep it on the ground with Reed Rapine (90 carries, 414 yds.) and Weems, as the Spartans allowed 162 rushing yards to Norristown.

UPPER PERKIOMEN AT PERKIOMEN VALLEY
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Perkiomen Valley High School
RECORDS: Upper Perkiomen is 0-7, 0-6 after losing to Pottstown, 33-19. Perkiomen Valley is 6-1, 6-0 after defeating Pope John Paul II, 42-6.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Perkiomen Valley won, 35-21.
OUTLOOK:  The Vikings prep for their showdown with Pottsgrove with the winless Indians, who have the PAC’s second-worst rush defense (256 yds. per game).
That’s good news for the Vikings offense, which is ranked first in the Pioneer (416 yards/game) and features the conference’s leading rusher, QB Rasaan Stewart ( 96 carries, 767 yds.), who along with his 788 passing yards is responsible for 53 percent of PV’s total yardage.
Offensively, Upper Perk is led by QB Dylan Wesley (60-for-137, 594 yds.) and receiver Robbie Hinson (15 catches, 191 yds.)

ROMAN CATHOLIC AT LA SALLE
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Plymouth Whitemarsh High School
RECORDS: Roman Catholic is 4-2, 1-1 after defeating Cardinal O’Hara, 39-34. La Salle is 6-1, 2-1 after losing to Saint Joseph’s Prep, 24-16.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: La Salle won the regular-season meeting, 23-21, then won again in the PCL AAAA finals, 16-6.
OUTLOOK: The Explorers are still smarting after their loss to the Prep a week ago, and practice this week was, well, not spent playing Frisbee.
“The way we played last week, we couldn’t have beaten anybody,” said La Salle head coach Drew Gordon, “so this is a critical week for us. We’ve had some hard practices this week, and now we’re going to see what we’re made of, mentally.”
La Salle has another tough foe this week in the Cahillites, who feature the pitch-catch tandem of QB Michael Keir (70-for-109, 1,046 yds., 7 TDs) and Notre Dame recruit William Fuller (34 catches, 566 yds.), who had 10 catches for 232 yards a week ago.
La Salle DB Dad Poquie is out this week and likely next with a sprained Achilles.

NORTH PENN AT PENNRIDGE
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Pennridge South Middle School (Poppy Yoder Field)
RECORDS: North Penn is 4-3, 3-1 after defeating Hatboro-Horsham, 34-0. Pennridge is 6-1, 3-0 after defeating Central Bucks South, 21-10.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: North Penn won, 27-0.
OUTLOOK:  See Sideline Insider

BOYERTOWN AT METHACTON
TIME: Saturday, 1:00 p.m., Methacton High School
RECORDS: Boyertown is 1-6, 1-5 after losing to Phoenixville, 33-0. Methacton is 2-5, 2-4 after losing to Spring-Ford, 31-7.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Methacton won, 17-7.
OUTLOOK:  If the Warriors are ever going to get their offense in gear, this may be the week. The Bears are allowing a PAC-worst 410 yards per game, including 290 on the ground.
The Warriors’ leading rusher – QB Brandon Bossard – has but 308 yards, while primary RB Michael Cassidy has but 196.
As for the Bears’ offense, QB Griffin Pasik leads the way with 485 passing yards and six touchdowns, while its three-man rushing attack, Matt Moccia, Cody Richmond and Eric Heller, have combined for nearly 1,400 yards.

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH AT NORRISTOWN
TIME: Saturday, 1:00 p.m., Norristown High School
RECORDS: Plymouth Whitemarsh is 6-1, 4-0 after defeating Upper Merion, 42-17. Norristown is 1-6, 1-3 after losing to Springfield, 18-6.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Plymouth Whitemarsh won, 32-0.
OUTLOOK:  The Colonials shoot for their fifth win in a row, look to edge closer to another Suburban One League American Conference crown and seek to improve their district playoff seeding (they are presently tied with Pennridge for third among AAAA programs).
As a sidelight, Colonials running backs Corey Kelly and Terry Brown are 100 and 132 rushing yards, respectively, short of reaching 1,000 for the season.
As for Norristown, the Eagles have dropped three in a row and had a tough setback a week ago at Springfield.
They’ll look to rebound behind a ground game that has improved of late, and a defense that has permitted just 352 yards over the last two games.

LANSDALE CATHOLIC AT ARCHBISHOP RYAN
TIME: Saturday, 1:00 p.m., George Washington High School
RECORDS: Lansdale Catholic is 4-3 after losing to Archbishop Wood, 28-14. Archbishop Ryan is 4-3 after defeating Father Judge, 32-31.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Did not play.
OUTLOOK:  The Raiders ended a 22-game PCL losing streak (in league play) last week when RB Jeremiah Agrio sprinted into the end zone for a two-point conversion in overtime to beat Judge.
With that in the rearview mirror, Ryan now faces non-league foe, Lansdale Catholic, which has fallen on hard times after a 4-0 start.
If LC is to snap its three-game losing streak, it will have to contend with the Raiders’ physical offensive line, led by Ed Bier and Brian Robbins, which punches holes for Agrio (149 carries, 804 yds.).
That offensive front will test the Crusaders’ run defense which permits just 117 yards per contest.

HAVERFORD SCHOOL AT GERMANTOWN ACADEMY
TIME: Saturday, 1:30 p.m., Germantown Academy
RECORDS: Haverford School is 4-3, 1-0 after defeating Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, 10-9. Germantown Academy is 3-2, 0-1 after losing to Malvern Prep, 24-7.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Haverford School won, 55-0.
OUTLOOK:  The Patriots seek to get into the Inter-Ac win column after a disappointing league opener in which they allowed 251 rushing yards.
The Fords, who have won four of their last five, feature Pitt recruit Matt Galambos (66 carries, 427 yds.), who is a beast at linebacker, while Phil Poquie, who scored what turned out to be the winning touchdown last week on an 87-yard kick return, is the brother of La Salle DB Dad Poquie.
GA continues to move the ball well through the air. QB Hayes Nolte went over the 1,000-yard mark last week, while Joe Taylor and Kyle Donahue are both over 300 yards in receiving this season, pretty good considering GA hadn’t had a 300-yard receiver since 2009.

POPE JOHN PAUL II AT PHOENIXVILLE
TIME: Saturday, 2:00 p.m., Phoenixville High School
RECORDS: Pope John Paul is 0-7, 0-6 after losing to Perkiomen Valley, 42-6. Phoenixville is 4-3, 3-2 after defeating Boyertown, 33-0 .
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Phoenixville won, 19-14.
OUTLOOK:  The Phantoms are sitting pretty in the race for a District One playoff berth (sixth) and can’t afford a hiccup against the Golden Panthers, who have been ravaged by injury all year long.
Ryan Yenchick (108 carries, 718 yds.) and Justin McDougal (74 carries, 344 yds.) head up a ground game ranked third in the PAC, which is not the best news for a PJP defense that allows 226 rushing yards per tilt.
Meanwhile, the Panthers are still putting it up, with QB Matt Mesaros (45-for-103, 615 yds., 4 TDs) hooking up regularly with Jamel Stinson (29 catches, 313 yds.)

ARCHBISHOP CARROLL AT ARCHBISHOP WOOD
TIME: Sunday, 1:00 p.m., William Tennent High School
RECORDS: Archbishop Carroll is 3-4 after losing to West Catholic, 42-22. Archbishop Wood is 5-2 after defeating Lansdale Catholic, 28-14.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Wood won regular-season meeting, 55-7, and in the PCL AAA semifinals, 55-6.
OUTLOOK:  A rare Sunday contest (taking advantage of the Philadelphia Eagles’ bye week) pits the Vikings juggernaut against a Patriots team that has won two of three and showed more than a little spunk against West last weekend.
As usual, the biggest factor in the game is Wood’s pro-sized front, that features Rutgers recruit Nick Arcidiacono, Deion Oliver (6-5, 275), George Griffin (6-4, 280) and Chris O’Connor (6-6, 285). That’s a major factor considering the Pats’ biggest lineman is listed at 255.
Andrew Guckin (75 carries, 555 yds.) and Josh Messina (46 carries, 327 yds.) are the primary ground-gainers running behind that Wood front.
Meanwhile, Carroll has to better protect QB Sal Bello (57-for-114, 905 yds., 12 TDs), who was sacked seven times last week.

High School Football Capsules (Oct. 12 to 13)

NORRISTOWN AT SPRINGFIELD
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Springfield High School
RECORDS: Norristown is 1-5, 1-2 after losing to Upper Moreland, 20-8. Springfield is 3-3, 0-3 after losing to Upper Merion, 42-14.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Did not play.
OUTLOOK: The Eagles continue to look for ways to improve, but have had difficulty putting a full game together.
Last week, they played real good second-half defense and had some success running the football. Unfortunately, Norristown yielded 20 first-half points and was never able to move the ball through the air.
In the Spartans, the Eagles get a club that started the season by winning three non-league games by the cumulative score of 112-19, then dropped its three SOL American contests by an aggregate 102-41.
Springfield, a state playoff team a season ago, relies heavily on sophomore quarterback Chris Stone, tight end Billy Dahm and running back Jhaloni Johnson.
Count LB/RB Darius Wills and DE/OL Coley Adams among the Eagles seniors who have continued to play hard through the challenging start.

UPPER MERION AT PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Plymouth Whitemarsh High School
RECORDS: Upper Merion is 1-5, 1-2 after defeating Springfield, 42-14. Plymouth Whitemarsh is 5-1, 3-0 after defeating Wissahickon, 35-21.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Plymouth Whitemarsh won, 55-14.
OUTLOOK: It’s kind of like crawling through barbwire to get your reward, only to discover your reward is getting to crawl through fire.
After 25 heart-wrenching losses in a row, the Vikings got off the schneid last week with a convincing win over Springfield. Their reward?  A date with the defending SOL American champion Colonials, who just happen to be all alone at the top of the conference again and who are coming off wins over their two toughest challengers – Wissahickon and Cheltenham.
Don’t expect the PW game plan to change. The Colonials lean heavily on running backs Terry Brown and Corey Kelly, and that duo has combined to produce better than 1,600 yards on the ground and 17 rushing touchdowns. Quarterback Pete Giorgio is coming off, perhaps, his best game of the season, throwing for 100 yards and a score and rushing for a touchdown in the big win over Wissahickon.
Upper Merion, meanwhile, went against its tendencies over the season’s first five games and used a 5-to-1, run-to-pass ratio (46 to 9) in the win over Springfield. That being the case, PW should expect a healthy dose of Vikings RB Hassan Gardner (164 carries, 758 yds.) this week.

UPPER DUBLIN AT UPPER MORELAND
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Upper Moreland  High School
RECORDS: Upper Dublin is 3-3, 1-2 after losing to Cheltenham, 28-7. Upper Moreland is 4-2, 2-1 after defeating Norristown, 20-8.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Upper Dublin won, 47-15.
OUTLOOK: The Cardinals fell victim to the mistakes of youth last week, out-statting Cheltenham but dooming themselves with ill-timed miscues, both mental and physical.
They’ll hope that changes this week against the Bears, who have turned their focus to making the AAA playoffs and have gotten off to a solid start.
“I like their aggressiveness, defensively,” said Cardinals head coach Bret Stover. “They really fly to the football, and they’ll hit you.
“Offensively, they’ll be patient. They’re OK with getting four, five yards a play and putting together 15-play drives.”
To beat Upper Moreland, the Cardinals know they’ll have to slow RB Robert Knox (117 carries, 643 yds.).

WISSAHICKON AT CHELTENHAM
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Cheltenham High School
RECORDS: Wissahickon is 4-2, 2-1 after losing to Plymouth Whitemarsh, 35-21. Cheltenham is 4-2, 2-1 after defeating Upper Dublin, 28-7.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Wissahickon won, 21-0.
OUTLOOK: Playoffs? Are you kidding? Playoffs?
No, this is not a written tribute to Jim Mora, but rather a commentary on this game.
With both teams at 4-2, the Trojans and Panthers both realize what this contest means as far as the postseason.
A victory puts the winner in real good shape heading into the season’s final weeks. But first, you have to win, and Trojans head coach Jeff Cappa knows that won’t be easy.
“This should be a real good game against two evenly matched teams,” Cappa said. “(Cheltenham head coach) Joe Gro does a nice job putting his players in positions to make plays. Their quarterback (Hyneef Dockery) throws the ball real well and they’re able to get the ball to their players in space. And if you focus too much on (leading rusher) Mark Thompson, their other back (Ryan Phillips) is a tough kid.”
As for the Trojans, Cappa said the team has put last week’s loss to PW behind them, but they’ll be without starting guard Eddie Bailey (ankle) and DL Alex Smith (injury). The good news is that LB Darrell Jackson will be back after being sidelined by a concussion.
As for the playoff implications?
“We’ve told our guys this week that this game is a playoff game,” Cappa said, “and it’s a playoff game for both teams.
‘We’re just happy we’re in a position to control our own destiny.”

ARCHBISHOP CARROLL AT WEST CATHOLIC
TIME: Friday, 7:30 p.m., Widener University
RECORDS: Archbishop Carroll is 3-3, 2-0 after defeating Neumann-Goretti, 34-13. West Catholic is 3-2, 2-0 after defeating Conwell-Egan, 52-16.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Did not play.
OUTLOOK: The Patriots have bounced back into the PCL title conversations after back-to-back wins. But in front of them are the Burrs, who have no fewer than 40 straight wins over league opponents, with 28 of those coming via the mercy rule.
A tall order for the Patriots, no doubt, especially realizing that in order to win they’ll have to find some way to deal with RB Greg White (80 carries, 587 yds.), QB Antwain McCollum (40-for-72, 602 yds., 8 TDs) and receiver Ron Womack (17 catches, 238 yds.).
And speaking of tall, take a gander at Burrs OL Jarryd Jones-Smith, a robust 6-7, 320-pounder.
As for Carroll, QB Sal Bello (45-for-91, 676 yds., 9 TDs) has been getting better by the week and a healthy Shawn Springs (56 carries, 205 yds.) gives the Patriots a decent run game.

HATBORO-HORSHAM AT NORTH PENN
TIME: Friday, 7:30 p.m., North Penn High School
RECORDS: Hatboro-Horsham is 1-5, 1-2 after defeating Quakertown, 14-13. North Penn is 3-3, 2-1 after losing to Central Bucks South, 36-29.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: North Penn won, 40-8.
OUTLOOK: How will the Knights bounce back after their first loss in SOL Continental play?
Of course, there’s no point of reference considering they’ve never had to do it, but you have to believe those guys clad in Columbia Blue might be a tad motivated this weekend.
Meanwhile, it hasn’t been a season to remember for the Hatters, who have been outscored, 219-84, to date and managed their first win a week ago, a one-pointer over a very young Q-town team.
The Hatters predominantly employ the ground game, with Luke Spahits, who went for over 200 yards against Quakertown, the primary pigskin toter.
If possible, the Hatters may attempt to throw against the Knights, who yielded 237 yards through the air in last week’s loss.

PERKIOMEN VALLEY AT POPE JOHN PAUL II
TIME: Saturday, 1:00 p.m., Pope John Paul II High School
RECORDS: Perkiomen Valley is 5-1, 5-0 after defeating Phoenixville, 28-15. Pope John Paul is 0-6, 0-5 after losing to Pottstown, 41-35.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Pope John Paul won, 33-27.
OUTLOOK:  The Panthers are wounded and the Vikings have been on an offensive roll – not exactly the proper formula for a Pioneer nailbiter.
PV QB Rasaan Stewart is coming off a monster game in what has been a season of monster games – 223 rushing yards and three touchdowns and 185 passing yards and another TD in PV’s win over Phoenixville. Teamed with WR Clay Domine (conference-best 34 catches, 517 yds.) and RB Mark Bonomo (80 carries, 587 yds.), it’s no wonder the Vikes are racking up 420 yards per game.
Then again, even with all the injuries, PJP leads the PAC in passing yards (1,331) while Chris Veisbergs (17 catches, 416 yds.), Jamel Stinson (26 catches, 293 yds.) and Tim Tadros (16 catches, 348 yds.)are seeing more passes than Mila Kunis on a street corner in Boystown.

METHACTON AT SPRING-FORD
TIME: Saturday, 2:00 p.m., Spring-Ford Middle School
RECORDS: Methacton is 2-4, 2-3 after losing to Pottsgrove, 27-14. Spring-Ford is 5-1, 3-1 after defeating Boyertown, 42-0.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Spring-Ford won, 26-14.
OUTLOOK: The Warriors have, in recent weeks, begun to perform as many thought they would at the outset of the season.
The primary weapon in the Methacton surge has been its defense, which ranks fourth in the PAC (311 yds. per game) and is a plus-five in turnover ratio.
The Green Guys, however, need to improve offensively, as they stand 10th and last in the conference while managing just 200 yards per start.
The Rams got 200 passing yards and four TDs from QB Hank Coyne last week, upping his career total of scoring passes to 48 and propelling him past previous record holder Lance Viola, who reached 46 TD tosses during the 1973 season.

GERMANTOWN ACADEMY AT MALVERN PREP
TIME: Saturday, 2:00 p.m., Malvern Preparatory School
RECORDS: Germantown Academy is 3-1 after defeating Pennington School, 31-6. Malvern Prep is 3-2 after defeating Upper Darby, 40-20.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Malvern Prep won, 48-0.
OUTLOOK:  After an impressive start, the Patriots get to put their wares on display in Inter-Ac play against the perennially tough Friars.
GA has been one of the year’s best stories, winning three of its first four games under first-year head coach Matt Dence, while impressing behind the quarterback play of Hayes Nolte (52-for-88, 887 yds., 9 TDs). But going up against Malvern is a tough start to the league schedule.
“Now, it’s a new season and we have five big challenges ahead of us,” Dence said. “It’s going to be a heck of a task, but we think we have the guys to tackle it.”
That’s not a slight to the Friars.
“Malvern is a great team,” Dence said. “They’re very well-coached and you know they’re going to be prepared. They’re going to run that Wing-T and come right at you with real tough kids.”
Friars Eric Purnell (45 carries, 423 yds.), Connor Bohs (37 carries, 200 yds.) and QB Billy Ford (35-for-82, 593 yds.) are among those the Patriots must stop.
“We’re going to need our best effort to win,” Dence said.

LANSDALE CATHOLIC AT ARCHBISHOP WOOD
TIME: Saturday, 7:00 p.m., William Tennent High School
RECORDS: Lansdale Catholic is 4-2, 0-1 after losing to Monsignor Bonner, 28-9. Archbishop Wood is 4-2, 0-1 after losing to Saint Joseph’s Prep, 23-10.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Did not play.
OUTLOOK: The Crusaders took it tough last week, yielding an 85-yard interception return for a touchdown just before halftime and allowing 196 yards through the air in a league schedule-opening loss.
This week, LC climbs out of the proverbial frying pan and smack into the fire with a date against a Wood team that is still smarting from its loss to the Prep last week.
A quick look at the Wood offensive line, that includes TE and Rutgers recruit Nick Arcidiacono, Deion Oliver (6-5, 275), George Griffin (6-4, 280) and Chris O’Connor (6-6, 285), is enough to intimidate Alabama and RBs Andrew Guckin (61 carries, 429 yds.) and Josh Messina (41 carries, 265 yds.) don’t make it any easier.
The contest also represents a reunion, of sorts, as Wood FB/DL Tyler Smith led the Crusaders in rushing last season.

LA SALLE AT SAINT JOSEPH’S PREP
TIME: Saturday, 7:00 p.m., Plymouth Whitemarsh High School
RECORDS: La Salle is 6-0, 2-0 after defeating Father Judge, 35-7. Saint Joseph’s Prep is 5-0, 1-0 after defeating Archbishop Wood, 23-10.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: La Salle won, 28-17.
OUTLOOK: See Sideline Insider

High school football capsules for Oct. 5-6

NEUMANN-GORETTI AT ARCHBISHOP CARROLL
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Radnor High School
RECORDS: Neumann-Goretti is 3-2, 0-0 after defeating Lansdale Catholic, 21-20. Archbishop Carroll is 2-3, 1-0 after defeating Conwell-Egan, 41-0.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Did not play.
OUTLOOK:  The Saints, fresh off knocking Lansdale Catholic from the ranks of the unbeaten, pose a major threat to the Patriots, who rolled up 41 points last week while racking up just 270 yards of offense.
“We had some breaks, but we also created breaks and our defense played real well,” said Carroll head coach Joe Powel. “We’re going to have to play well defensively again. Neumann-Goretti is a good football team.”
Powel is leery of the high-powered N-G passing offense, which is the third most efficient in the PCL (140 yards per game), and piloted effectively by QB Ray Lenhart (35-for-84, 707 yds., 10 TDs).
“They have receivers who are 6-3 (Eric Holt), 6-5 (Sharif Custis) and 6-7 (Jamal Custis), and they like to get the ball in their hands in the passing game,” Powel said. “This is a good challenge. We’re evenly matched, and whoever plays good defense will be successful.”
AC playmaker Danny Bier has scored touchdowns this season through receiving (four), a kickoff return, a punt return and an interception.

POPE JOHN PAUL II at POTTSTOWN
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Pottstown High School
RECORDS: Pope John Paul is 0-5, 0-4 after losing to Owen J. Roberts, 20-12. Pottstown is 2-3, 1-2 after losing to Phoenixville, 42-27.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Pope John Paul won, 31-16
OUTLOOK:  The Golden Panthers have a new sponsor – the new Einstein Medical Center Montgomery Hospital.
Just being facetious, folks, but while most teams watch their stat totals go up each week, the PJP coaching staff is counting additions to the injured list. This week, it’s starting NG/G Armen DiFilippo who will miss the game this week.
“It’s just one of those years,” said PJP head coach Mike Santillo. “We’re waiting for clearance for (injured RB) Nick DiPrinzio, so he might be back.”
As for Pottstown?
“They’re fast as all heck, a typical Pottstown team,” Santillo said, “and their quarterback (Sage Reinhart) has already gone over 1,000 yards.
“We just can’t let them get their speed in space.”

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH AT WISSAHICKON
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Wissahickon High School
RECORDS: Plymouth Whitemarsh is 4-1, 2-0 after defeating Cheltenham in overtime, 34-28. Wissahickon is 4-1, 2-0 after defeating Springfield, 27-7.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Plymouth Whitemarsh won, 31-7
OUTLOOK:  The leaders in the SOL American clash with both league supremacy and Class AAAA playoff positioning (presently PW is fourth, Wissahickon is tied for seventh) as major sidebars.
“I knew, going into the season, that PW would be a top team because they’re so well-coached and their kids are always so tough,” said Trojans head coach Jeff Cappa. “But when I saw them on film, they’re even better than I expected.”
One of Cappa’s concerns is the PW option offense.
“They run a lot of dive option,” Cappa said, “but they haven’t run as much option as they have in the past. They’ll line up and run power and a lot of different things, and we’ve had to make a lot of adjustments in practice this week.”
But if Cappa is impressed by PW, Colonials head coach Dan Chang is equally impressed with the Trojans.
“They do a lot of things well,” Chang said of Wissahickon. “We’ve really been impressed with their offensive and defensive lines. They all have good size and they explode off the ball.”
PW center Pat Mascio and DB Brian Afflick are out due to injury, while 600-yard RB Terry Brown is questionable with a knee injury.
“Regardless of whether (Brown) plays or not, we have our work cut out for us,” Cappa said.

BOYERTOWN AT SPRING-FORD
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Spring-Ford Middle School
RECORDS: Boyertown is 1-4, 1-3 after losing to Perkiomen Valley, 42-7. Spring-Ford is 4-1, 2-1 after losing to Pottsgrove, 26-0.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Spring-Ford won, 45-14.
OUTLOOK:  The Rams are in rebound mode, trying to bounce back after last weekend’s shutout loss to Pottsgrove.
They face a Boyertown team that is the PAC’s worst against the run (322 yds. per game) and overall (432 yds. per game). That being the case, expect to see a lot of S-F RB Yousef Lundi (63 carries, 443 yds., 6 TDs) this week.
On the other side of the ball, the Bears prefer the overland route, with Matt Moccia (55 carries, 406 yds.) and Eric Heller (57 carries, 352 yds.) leading the way. But the Rams rank second in the PAC in stopping the run (228 yds. per game).

UPPER DUBLIN AT CHELTENHAM
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Cheltenham High School
RECORDS: Upper Dublin is 3-2, 1-1 after defeating Norristown, 35-19. Cheltenham is 3-2, 1-1 after losing to Plymouth Whitemarsh in overtime, 34-28.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Upper Dublin won, 19-7.
OUTLOOK:  The Cardinals travel to Cheltenham, where the Panthers are still smarting after losing a two-touchdown lead and dropping a heartbreaker to Plymouth Whitemarsh in overtime.
Upper Dublin has gone the way of the chalk this year, winning three games it would be expected to win (Truman, Lincoln, Norristown), while losing decisively to CB West and Wissahickon. If the Cards are to challenge for an SOL title, they’re going to need an upset win within conference play. Is this the week?
If so, Upper Dublin is going to have to corral Panthers RB Mark Thompson, who scorched PW for nearly 200 yards on the ground in the first half before getting only a handful of touches in the second.
The Cards defense, led by LB Ben Winebrake, held Norristown to 120 yards on the ground last week, but the Panthers pose a bigger challenge.

GERMANTOWN ACADEMY AT PENNINGTON SCHOOL
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Pennington School
RECORDS: Germantown Academy is 2-1 after losing to Blair Academy, 42-41. Pennington is 2-2 after losing to Lawrenceville, 48-14.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Germantown Academy won, 34-14.
OUTLOOK:  Despite the wild loss last weekend, the Patriots seem to be a team to be reckoned with this season.
Like their close encounter with Temple recruit Jihaad Pretlow last week, GA gets another top running back this week in Red Raider Marcus Fulmore (62 carries, 355 yds., 5 TDs), who along with QB Ryan McGann (25-for-47, 271 yds.) and talented WR Kaison Randolph (12 catches, 121 yds.) give LB Rob Gorman and the Patriots defense another potent attack to try and slow down.
Of course, after last week, the Raiders will have to be mindful of GA QB Hayes Nolte (39-for-65, 665 yds., 8 TDs), who in throwing for 321 yards against Blair became the first Patriots signal-caller to top the 300-yard passing plateau in a game since Sean Grieve did it twice during the 2002 season.

PHOENIXVILLE AT PERKIOMEN VALLEY
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Perkiomen Valley High School
RECORDS: Phoenixville is 3-2, 2-1 after defeating Pottstown, 42-27. Perkiomen Valley is 4-1, 4-0 after defeating Boyertown, 42-7.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Phoenixville won, 14-9.
OUTLOOK:  The Vikings find themselves in first place (along with Pottsgrove) in the PAC, but historically have their problems with the Phantoms.
“Two weeks ago they got beat by Owen J. Roberts, but last week they beat Pottstown,” said PV head coach Scott Reed. “So I don’t know what team we’re getting. We’ve always seemed to play close games with them, and it’ll probably be the same this week.”
Last week, the running game paved the way for Phoenixville, which got 204 rushing yards and four touchdowns from RB Ryan Yenchick, while limiting the vaunted Pottstown ground game to just 139 yards.
PV’s ground game, behind Mark Bonomo (62 carries, 470 yds.) and QB Rasaan Stewart (59 carries, 420 yds.), will provide another test for Phoenixville.

SPRINGFIELD AT UPPER MERION
TIME: Friday, 7:00 p.m., Upper Merion Middle School
RECORDS: Springfield is 3-2, 0-2 after losing to Wissahickon, 27-7. Upper Merion is 0-5, 0-2 after losing to Upper Moreland, 35-20.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Did not play.
OUTLOOK:  The Vikings, seeking to snap a losing streak that has now reached 25 games, do battle with the Spartans, who are 0-2 in their first SOL action since 1994.
At press time there was no word on whether UM QB Carmen Fortino would return to the lineup, or if Bobby Landmesser, who filled in for Fortino last week, would be under center.
On the other side of the ball, the Vikings defense better get used to playing the run. Springfield travels primarily on the legs of Jhaloni Johnson (43 carries, 410 yds.) and QB Chris Stone (55 carries, 324 yds.).

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH AT NORTH PENN
TIME: Friday, 7:30 p.m., North Penn High School
RECORDS: Central Bucks South is 5-0, 2-0 after defeating Souderton, 44-28. North Penn is 3-2, 2-0 after defeating Quakertown, 42-7.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: North Penn won, 28-14.
OUTLOOK:  See Sideline Insider

POTTSGROVE AT METHACTON
TIME: Saturday, 1:00 p.m., Methacton High School
RECORDS: Pottsgrove is 5-0, 4-0 after defeating Spring-Ford, 26-0. Methacton is 2-3, 2-2 after defeating Upper Perkiomen, 35-6.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Pottsgrove won, 21-19.
OUTLOOK:  By now, everybody knows about Pottsgrove, and its incredible offense, which is averaging 45 points per game while winning its five games by an average of 40 per contest.
But there’s been nothing wrong with the Falcons’ defense, which is first in the PAC against the run (110 per game) and first against the pass (88 yds. per game).
“You watch Pottsgrove play, and they play fast in every aspect of the game,” said Methacton head coach Paul Lepre. “Every week you see them make something positive out of negative situations. They get off the ball, they get 11 hats to the ball and they don’t give you too many opportunities to do things.
“When you play them, execution is the key. You have to make tackles when you get the chance and you have to make plays when you get the chance.”
Meanwhile, Lepre said his Warriors have bounced back nicely after dropping their first three games of the year.
“I think the kids got a little shell-shocked with (the season opener against) Souderton,” Lepre said. “That was the most physical team we’ve played in my tenure here, and it took a while to recover from that. But through our kids’ dedication, I think they’re at a point where they feel they can play with anybody.”
Methacton will play without center Mike McGoldrick (concussion), but get OL Andrew Steven back off the injury. Steven will go to tackle, while tackle Jeremy Reid will move to center.

UPPER MORELAND AT NORRISTOWN
TIME: Saturday, 2:30 p.m., Norristown High School
RECORDS: Upper Moreland is 3-2, 1-1 after defeating Upper Merion, 35-20. Norristown is 1-4, 1-1 after losing to Upper Dublin, 35-19.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Norristown won, 38-28.
OUTLOOK:  The Eagles face another tall task in the Bears, who like to run the ball with Robert Knox (100 carries, 573 yds.) and a tough offensive line.
“They just line up, tackle-to-tackle, and come right at you,” said Norristown head coach E.J. Smith. “They have a very good football team, and we’ll have to cut down on our mental mistakes if we expect to be in the game.”
Norristown RB Joe Smith is questionable with a groin strain.

LA SALLE AT FATHER JUDGE
TIME: Saturday, 2:45 p.m., Abraham Lincoln High School
RECORDS: La Salle is 5-0, 1-0 after defeating Archbishop Ryan, 31-0. Father Judge is 2-2, 0-0 after defeating Monsignor Bonner, 25-24.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: La Salle won in regular season, 33-14 and in the PCL playoffs, 26-16.
OUTLOOK:  Judge is coming off what many have called, “the best game of the year, “ a wild back-and-forth, one-point victory over Bonner in a game that wasn’t actually over even when it was over (an end-zone interception on a last-play Hail Mary saw the interceptor run/or not the ball out and drop it on the 10-yard line, a play later called a touchback).
The Crusaders have been a fun team to watch all year, particularly due to an offense, led by QB Ryan Mackiewicz (29-for-56, 493 yds.) and RB Samir Bullock (59 carries, 433 yds.), that rolls up 308 yards per contest and a defense that yields 335 per game.
La Salle continues to make gaining yardage look nearly effortless. QB Chris Kane (67-for-103, 1,103 yds., 12 TDs) cracked the 1,000-yard mark last week – and only connected with his top receiver, Sean Coleman, one time.

MONSIGNOR BONNER AT LANSDALE CATHOLIC
TIME: Saturday, 3:00 p.m., Wissahickon High School
RECORDS: Monsignor Bonner is 1-3, 0-0 after losing to Father Judge, 25-24. Lansdale Catholic is 4-1, 0-0 after losing to Neumann-Goretti, 21-20.
LAST SEASON’S GAME: Monsignor Bonner won, 54-22.
OUTLOOK:  LC is no longer unbeaten, but its more-important league slate begins this week, and  the Crusaders really need a bounce-back victory.
It won’t be easy against a Bonner team that is good for 313 offensive yards per tilt, and is led by one of the PCL’s best QBs in Jim Haley, the returning AAA co-MVP, who is a solid leader, and can probe defenses with his arm (19-for-46, 243 yds.) or his legs (35 carries, 298 yds.), but who has played only two full games this season (due to injury and a storm that suspended the Friars’ game against Roman).
RB Joe DePhillipo is a force, but left last week’s game in the third quarter after suffering an injury and did not return.
LC’s loss did not adversely affect its standing in the PCL. The Crusaders are second in points scored and first in defense (156 yds. per game).
LC RB/LB Kevin Sabo has rushed for 241 yards and scored nine touchdowns this year (eight rushing).
